What is Traditional Upholstery?

Traditional upholstery involves using time-honoured traditional methods and materials in order to create comfortable, long lasting seating. The time and skill involved is reflected in the final sale price.

The process of traditional upholstery is detailed below in a series of photographs and can involve the use of webbing, springs, hessian, coir, hand-stitching, hair, cotton flock and calico. We NEVER use foam.

NB: Staples are only used in rare circumstances. This is usually when an item has already been re-upholstered a number of times resulting in some damage to the wood and where the use of tacks would cause further, irreparable damage.
